Capture · Record · Stream · Encode · DecodeAES67 is an open standard from the Audio Engineering Society for sending uncompressed digital audio over a standard IP network. Its purpose is interoperability. Dante, Ravenna and other audio-over-IP systems each use their own protocol, and AES67 gives them a common format in which to exchange audio. Many of those systems can send and receive AES67 streams. Dante can on devices that support it, but not every Dante device does.
In practice, AES67 matters most at the boundary between systems. A venue with one maker’s audio network and another maker’s mixing desk can pass audio between them as AES67 streams, with no analogue cabling in between. AES67 is also the basis of SMPTE ST 2110-30, the audio part of the ST 2110 standards for broadcast video over IP.
If your facility uses one system throughout, such as Dante everywhere, you may never need to think about AES67. It becomes relevant when audio has to move between systems that do not share a protocol. It also helps when sound from an audio network has to join an NDI or SRT video workflow.
The Pro Convert AES67 links an AES67 network (SMPTE ST 2110-30 compatible) to analogue audio, USB audio, and Icecast, SRT and NDI audio streams. It has unbalanced 3.5 mm and balanced 4.4 mm analogue inputs and outputs, and an audio matrix in its Web UI routes or mixes any input to any output. The Pro Convert Audio DX is the Dante counterpart. It sends and receives eight channels of Dante audio in place of AES67, with the same analogue and USB connections, and exchanges audio with SRT, NDI, RTSP and RTMP streams. Choose the AES67 model for an AES67 or ST 2110 audio network and the Audio DX for a Dante network. Both run from standard PoE.
