Recording and Streaming Simultaneously with Ultra Stream

Magewell Recording and Streaming Simultaneously with Ultra Stream

Three Simultaneous Outputs

The Ultra Stream HDMI and Ultra Stream SDI can run three operations in parallel: recording to the smartphone running the Ultra Stream App, recording to a connected USB flash drive, and live streaming to a configured RTMP destination. All three from the same source signal.

Starting Each Operation

From the Ultra Stream App: the LOCAL page controls recording to the phone. The REMOTE page or the physical button on the device controls recording to USB flash drive. Streaming starts from the Stream page when at least one RTMP destination is configured.

Bitrate and Stream Limits

The encoder supports up to 8 Mbps total. When set to 8 Mbps the device streams to a single RTMP destination at a time; below that limit, two simultaneous RTMP destinations can run. The internal recording captures the same encoded stream, so a single bitrate value applies to all outputs.

RTMPS Support

RTMPS (RTMP over TLS) is supported with current firmware. Update the device through the Ultra Stream App if you do not see RTMPS in the destination options. Older firmware versions are RTMP-only.

Power and Reliability

Use the supplied power adapter, not a phone charger or PC USB port. Earlier hardware revisions could be damaged by incorrect power input. November 2018 onwards units include over-voltage protection but the supplied adapter remains the recommended power source.
