About this product
If your HDMI cable run is too long for one cable, or your capture device keeps losing a picture that looks fine on a monitor, the Mini Repeater HDMI 4K is the small fix for installers and camera operators. It is an inline HDMI repeater that sits in the middle of the run. An HDMI cable from the source plugs into one end and a second HDMI cable to the screen or capture device plugs into the other. Inside, it strengthens and cleans up the signal and sends it on. You get a longer cable run and a steadier picture, from a device small enough to tuck behind a screen or into a camera bag.
The problems it solves
It earns its place in two everyday situations:
- You need a longer HDMI run. A long HDMI cable weakens the signal. Putting the repeater between two cables restores it part-way along, so the total run can be longer and the screen or capture PC can go where you want it.
- The picture is unstable. A captured image that flashes, shows the wrong colours or brings up an “unsupported signal” prompt is a typical sign of a weak HDMI signal reaching a capture device. The repeater repairs the signal before it arrives, which saves you swapping cables and sources to chase the fault.
How it cleans up the signal
- Receives and equalises. Equalising means correcting the losses a cable causes, so the signal leaving the repeater is stronger than the one that arrived.
- Removes signal dithering. It steadies instability in the signal, which helps stop the picture flashing.
- Buffers the DDC lines. DDC is the side channel that HDMI devices use to talk to each other, for example to agree a resolution. Buffering it helps that conversation survive the longer run.
- Passes protected content. HDCP 1.x and 2.x are supported, so you can put it in line with a protected source and a display.
What signals it carries
- HDMI 2.0. It is compatible with HDMI 2.0 and supports 4K × 2K and 3D, with a pixel rate of up to 594 MHz and an HDMI data rate of up to 6.0 Gbps. That suits 4K sources as well as HD ones.
- DVI. It is compatible with DVI standards, and the signal type is HDMI / DVI-D. Both connectors on the repeater are HDMI Type A, so connect a DVI source with a DVI to HDMI cable or adapter.
How far it reaches
The tested cable lengths apply to each side of the repeater, so you can plan a run with the repeater at the midpoint:
- 4K signals. A 10 m (32 ft) cable can be used on the input and a 10 m cable on the output.
- 2K signals. A 20 m (65 ft) cable can be used on the input and a 20 m cable on the output.
These lengths were reached in testing with JCE brand HDMI cables. Use good-quality cables to get the same reach, and ask us if you would like advice on a particular run.
Small, and powered from the cable
- Power. It is powered by the HDMI signal itself, or by an external 5 V supply. A USB to 5 V cable is included for when external power is needed, so the power cable is in the box.
- Status. An on-board LED shows the state of the input and output, so you can see at a glance which side of the run to check.
- Size. 58.22 × 27.26 × 10.80 mm, which lets you leave it in line behind a display or carry one in a kit bag.
