Capture · Record · Stream · Encode · DecodeMedical video capture puts dependability first. A dropped frame during a surgical recording, a lost signal during a live procedure broadcast, or a driver conflict on a clinical workstation all cause real problems, so the capture hardware should be as simple and predictable as possible.
Magewell USB Capture devices install without drivers and take their power from the USB port, so there is no driver package or power supply to manage on a clinical workstation. Scaling and de-interlacing are done inside the device. Pro Capture PCIe cards are built for continuous 24×7 work and support Windows, Linux and macOS. These are general-purpose video devices, not medical devices, so your integrator remains responsible for the compliance of the whole system.
USB Capture devices install without drivers on Windows, macOS, Linux and Chrome OS. There is no driver package for IT to test, deploy and keep up to date.
Capture works without installing Magewell software. The device has no network connection of its own and takes its power from the USB port. The optional USB Capture Utility is only needed for settings and firmware.
Windows 10 and 11, macOS, Linux and Chrome OS are all supported. On a locked-down workstation, ask your IT team to confirm that USB video devices are permitted before you order.

Magewell USB Capture devices suit surgical recording and telemedicine. They bring the HDMI or SDI output of an endoscope, surgical camera or ultrasound machine into a PC for recording, streaming or use in other software. The USB Capture HDMI Plus covers HD sources, the USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro captures 4K at up to 60 fps, and the USB Capture AIO adds SDI and analogue inputs. Pro Capture PCIe cards suit permanent installations, as they are built for continuous 24×7 work.
Yes, for teaching, training and remote consultation. A USB Capture or Pro Capture device brings the camera feed into a PC, where your software records it or streams it over the hospital network. The USB Capture HDMI Plus and HDMI 4K Pro have an HDMI loop-through output, so a monitor can be fed from the same device. Whether a primary surgical display may be routed through any additional equipment is a decision for your clinical engineering team. ForeFront Imaging can advise on specific configurations for surgical AV integration.
Yes, provided the medical device has a standard HDMI or SDI video output. For older equipment with VGA, component, composite or S-Video output, the Magewell USB Capture AIO accepts those analogue signals as well as SDI, HDMI and DVI. Always check the output connector, resolution and frame rate of your specific medical equipment before choosing a capture device.
Magewell capture devices are general-purpose AV hardware. They are not medical devices and should not be treated as carrying medical device certification. Compliance of the overall medical system, such as a recording workstation or telemedicine platform, is the responsibility of the integrator, including any electrical safety requirements for equipment used near patients. ForeFront Imaging can provide the manufacturer's documentation for procurement and compliance purposes on request.
Yes. Magewell Pro Capture and USB Capture devices capture standard HDMI and SDI video, which covers the outputs of many endoscopy systems, surgical cameras, ultrasound machines and diagnostic displays. The source must send an unprotected signal, as copy-protected (HDCP) HDMI content cannot be captured. Check the output of your equipment, or ask us, before you order.
No. Magewell products are general-purpose video capture hardware, not certified medical devices. They are used as components within larger imaging and recording systems. For regulatory compliance in clinical environments, the system integrator or OEM is responsible for certifying the overall system.
The Pro Capture PCIe cards have a stated capture latency of 64 video lines, which is a small fraction of one frame. That is the delay inside the card. Your software and display add their own. For live monitoring, choose a model with a loop-through output, such as the Pro Capture Dual SDI, so that a monitor is fed alongside the capture.
