Magewell Pro Convert IP to AIO 4K Module

About this product

Streams arrive over the network, but the display on the wall wants HDMI and the vision mixer wants SDI. The Pro Convert IP to AIO 4K Module is for control rooms, venues and production teams who need both, and who would sooner keep the equipment in a rack than behind each screen. It is a 4K NDI decoder and multiview module: it takes video streams from the network and turns them into one 4K picture, delivered on an HDMI 2.0 output and a 12G-SDI output. It slides into the Magewell Modator 2U chassis, so several screens and SDI feeds can be served from one tidy rack.

Multiview: three ways to use the screen

• Single view. One stream, up to 4096×2160 at 60 frames per second. H.264, H.265, SpeedHQ (NDI High Bandwidth) and MPEG-2 are supported.
• Picture-in-picture. Two streams at up to 1080p60 each, which suits a presenter over slides or a main feed with a return. One of the two can be NDI High Bandwidth or MPEG-2; pair it with an H.264 or H.265 stream.
• Quad view. Four streams at up to 1080p60 each, so you can watch four cameras or four sites on one screen. Quad view works with H.264 and H.265 sources, which covers NDI HX2 and HX3, SRT, RTMP and the other compressed protocols. For NDI High Bandwidth, use single view or picture-in-picture.

A 3840×2160 screen has exactly the pixel area of four 1920×1080 pictures, so a quad view on a 4K display has room for each of the four sources at full HD size.

Two outputs: HDMI 2.0 and 12G-SDI

• HDMI 2.0. Up to 4096×2160 at 60 fps, in 4:4:4 8-bit or 4:2:2 12-bit, with up to eight audio channels at 48 or 96 kHz.
• 12G-SDI. A single BNC carrying SD, HD, 3G, 6G or 12G-SDI, up to 4096×2160 at 60 fps in 4:2:2 10-bit, with eight channels of 48 kHz audio and CEA-608 / CEA-708 closed captions.
• HDR. PQ and HLG are supported on both outputs; on SDI the HDR information travels in the ancillary data.
• SDI cable runs. Up to 55 m for 12G-SDI, 75 m for 6G-SDI and 130 m for 3G-SDI, which lets the rack sit some way from the mixer or router.

What it can decode

NDI High Bandwidth, NDI HX2 and NDI HX3 (NDI 6.3); MPEG-TS over RTP, UDP, SRT or RIST; RTMP; RTSP; HLS; HTTP; and Zixi. Audio codecs are AAC, MP3, AC3, Opus and G.711. With that range, you can point the same module at an NDI camera in the building or a compressed feed from another site.

Where it earns its place

• One module for display and SDI. The HDMI output can drive a 4K screen or projector while the SDI output feeds a mixer, router or recorder.
• Fewer decoders. Four HD streams on one output can replace four separate decoders and a multiviewer where a combined view is what you need. That saves rack slots, cabling and switch ports.
• Mixed sources on one picture. An NDI camera, an SRT feed from a remote site and an RTMP stream can share the same screen.
• Status at the rack. An LED on the module shows whether the selected sources are decoding normally, so a fault is visible from the front of the rack.

How it fits in the chassis

• Powered by the chassis. The module slides into a slot of the Modator 2U chassis, which holds up to ten modules and supplies their power, so there is one rack to power instead of a supply at every screen. Order the chassis with it if you are starting a new rack.
• Hot-swappable. It connects through its Modator interface and can be swapped while the rack is running, so the other modules keep working.
• Its own network socket. The module has its own Gigabit Ethernet port (RJ45), a USB Type-C port for configuration and a USB Type-A port for a keyboard and mouse.
• Power and size. It draws at most about 14.6 W, inside the chassis limit of 20 W per slot. It measures 184.4 × 30.0 × 81.5 mm and weighs about 300 g.

Setting it up

• Pick whichever suits the moment: the touch screen on the Modator chassis, the Web GUI in a browser, or Magewell Control Hub and Zixi ZEN Master for managing many devices from one place.
• The Web GUI shows a preview of the output and offers PTZ camera control, so you can confirm what is on screen from another room.
• HTTP APIs are provided for custom integration with a control system.
