Most low-cost HDMI capture dongles do their video processing in software — meaning your computer's own CPU has to scale, convert and buffer the signal in real time. Push it hard enough (a long stream, a demanding source, an older laptop) and the result is dropped frames, audio drifting out of sync, and a fan that won't stop spinning. USB Capture HDMI Gen 2 handles all of that on dedicated onboard hardware instead, so your CPU is left free to run OBS, Zoom, or whatever else you're actually trying to do. That's also why it's genuinely driverless — UVC/UAC compliant out of the box on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS, so there's no install, no reboot, no hunting for the right driver version at the worst possible moment.

It's bus-powered over USB 3.0, so there's no separate power brick to carry or forget, and processing latency stays under 100ms end to end — low enough that presenters and lecturers don't notice a lag between what they do and what appears on screen.
